Movie Review _ The Perfect Getaway

Synopsis: Cliff and Cydney (Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich) are an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful, and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe they've found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back.
Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust. Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins. --© Universal

 Mary's Review : LIKEY

Why I liked it :  Timothy Olyphant is in it. Don't recognize the name? Perhaps this will jar you memory...

HUBBA! HUBBA!

Alas, that is not the only reason I liked it. It has an interesting twist that will keep you guessing. This is no award winner but it's a solid B movie. David Twohy  produced this movie and Pitch Black. I like his style.

CONS: It takes at least 30 minutes to get past all the cheesy stuff. The acting is so bad it's painful. However,  trust me when I say this, it all comes together in the end.

You'll either like it or hate. This is one where few are caught in the middle. This time I'm on the like side.

  1. Holy Guacamole! Can you believe Timothy Olyphant is in his 40s? My goodness he looks amazing. I thought he was in his late 20s or early 30s.

  2. ok, i love steve zahn, always have always will. and this movie makes me love him even more.
i expected to be mildly amused by this movie, and maybe like it a smidge. but i loved it! i wouldn't say the acting was painfully bad, but rather the dialogue was, at times, forced. lol
i heard there's an alternate ending to the one i saw, and since i don't want to post any spoilers, i'll just say i think i may have preferred a different ending!
my fave scene? don't want to ruin it, but the beach scene shown towards the end...that's all i can say :D

are you planning on seeing mr hubba hubba in the crazies?
and i just watched an old old epi of tales from the crypt/ darkside (one of those shows on chiller) and he was in it and he was such a baby then, he's aged well!

  3. Stac,

I need to clarify. The acting seemed bad at the beginning and the dialogue was off. That is only at the beginning and is so for a reason that doesn't come until later in the film.

Yes, I'm with you on the beach scene. I'll probably wait for The Crazies to come out on DVD. What about you?
